We are not a rescue centre and would strongly advise against contacting us in an emergency, particularly if it concerns an injured animal that would require immediate intervention.

If you suspect that the life of an owl or any other animal is in danger, please contact our friends at WILD Things Rescue, the RSPCA, or your local veterinary clinic for advice.

Note that young owl chicks that have prematurely left the nest but are otherwise showing no obvious signs of injury should not be moved or handled, as in the vast majority of cases their whereabouts will still be known to the parent birds.

Under no circumstances should you remove a bird or any other animal from the wild and attempt to feed it by hand - this will only complicate matters further.

Baytree Owl and Wildlife is operated fully independently from Baytree Garden Centre.

If you have a question about a product or service offered by Baytree Garden Centre (including their restaurant, toilet or parking facilities), you should enquire with them directly.

Unfortunately, we are not able to take or pass on any messages intended for Baytree Garden Centre sent to us through any communication method, including by phone, e-mail or post.

Unfortunately, we are not able to do any work with our birds off-site.

We can however arrange visits to our centre for schools and other organised groups which includes a private demonstration.

Absolutely! We love offering our support to local good causes and will consider any request made to us.

However - as we hope you'll understand - we receive a large number of such enquires and unfortunately we are not able to fulfil all of them.

When approving such requests, we are more likely to prioritise those: with an immediate local connection (i.e. from or around the Spalding/Holbeach area); from public organisations such as schools, NHS/health/care services, leisure facilities, etc.; those promoting a specific campaign (e.g. reading, swimming, healthy eating etc.); and local fundraisers in support of registered charities.

We may ask for some proof of the legitimacy of the event, or evidence that the donation will support e.g. a registered charity by verifying the charity number.

Please include as many details as possible with your enquiry, such as when and where the event will be taking place and what the donations are in support of, as this will help us to decide which requests we are more able to support.

Our volunteers have always been an important and valued asset to our centre, and we are always in need of people willing to donate their time to assist with our day-to-day operations.

If you like to enquire about a voluntary position, all we ask is that you are able to commit to at least one regular working day per week (of course, approved absences and illness are excepted.)

We can generally only support a small number of volunteers on any given day of the week, meaning availability will generally be determined by which days currently have the fewest volunteers. It may therefore be helpful to have a couple of days in mind when you contact us.

We are also happy to arrange 1 - 2 week work experience placements for school pupils (Y10+), or longer placements for university students. As with the above, we are only able to support a limited number of students on work placements at a time, so if you would be interested in carrying out your work placement with us, we recommend getting your request in as soon as possible.

Unfortunately, we do not currently offer work placements to college students. However, students attending college are welcome to enquire about volunteering with us alongside their course.

We are a small centre with a small team. As such, we are not actively seeking additional paid staff on a regular basis.

Any future vacancies will be advertised for interested applicants on channels such as Indeed or our Facebook page, as well as at our admissions desk.

Note however that we are regularly seeking volunteers as well as school or university students looking for suitable work placements. If this would be of interest to you, please get in touch.

Unfortunately, we are not able to admit dogs into the centre. This also applies to assistance dogs, including guide dogs.

Although we appreciate the vital service that guide dogs afford and the rights of those who depend on them, we also have an obligation to protect the welfare of our animals.

Restricting access to all dogs in this situation is in keeping with the Equality Act’s stipulation of “reasonable adjustments”, as well as the official guidance issued by BIAZA regarding the admittance of guide dogs to zoos and aquariums.

This decision has been made and carefully balanced based on a number of factors, but most significantly the prior loss of a number of birds due to the presence of dogs.

We understand this is a delicate situation and apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Note that Baytree Garden Centre (in which we are located) still makes a perfect dog friendly day out. As well as having one of the largest independent pet shops in the country, they also have a dedicated section of their restaurant which welcomes dogs (assistance dogs are also permitted in the main dining area.)
