Christmas Gift Guide

➥ Home >> Christmas

It's the season of good will, and you would probably agree that nothing comes above creating meaningful, lasting memories with our family and friends - and doing some good while you're at it!

Purchasing any of the gift ideas below directly supports our charity and our mission to conserve and protect owls and birds of prey.

Surprise your loved ones with one of our adoption packages or annual passes, or if you simply want to lend us your support, donating a Meal Ticket will help us keep an owl or bird of prey in food over the winter. Thank you!

Gift Categories

Baytree Owl and Raptor Centre is a registered charity.

We are only able to continue our important work with the generous support of our visitors and the public.

If you are a UK taxpayer, the items below are eligible for Gift Aid. Meal Tickets and Bronze or Silver Adoption Packages are always eligible. Annual Memberships and Gold Adoption Packages are eligible if buying for yourself or a member of your family.

Please complete the Gift Aid Declaration during the checkout process if you are eligible. We can claim an additional 25p for every £1 made in eligible Gift Aid bookings back from the government...

...at no cost to you.

If you pay less Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax in the current tax year than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all of your donations, it is your responsibility to pay any difference.

Would you like us to explain more about Gift Aid?

When you make a donation to charity, it should be free of tax. However, as a taxpayer, the money in your pocket is your "after tax" income. For example, if you are a basic rate taxpayer and earn £10, you will have £8 after tax. But if you then give that £8 to charity, that donation was subject to tax, when it should not have been. This is the idea behind Gift Aid - your charitable donations are topped back up to your "before tax" amount. If you donate that £8, HMRC adds back the £2 it took in tax to make it back up to the full £10 you would have earned before tax. Gift Aid does not cost you any extra because the top-up is made from tax you have (or will have) already paid. It simply allows the charity to receive a donation to the "before tax" amount. You can safely Gift Aid donations of up to four times the value of the tax you have paid in any given tax year. This means that for every £100 in tax that you have paid, you can Gift Aid up to £400 of donations.

Meal Tickets

Meal Tickets

With over 70 owls and birds of prey, food is perhaps the charity's largest ongoing expense.

With the quieter winter months approaching, our capacity to meet those costs becomes much more difficult.

This is the idea behind “Meal Tickets”. For a small £5 contribution, you can help keep our birds in food over the Christmas period.

In exchange, you'll receive a downloadable photograph and a thank-you note to proudly pop on the mantlepiece.

Meal Tickets are offered as an instant download, making them a great last-minute gift idea, too!

harvest mouse owl food.png

How far does £5 go?

On average, your £5 contribution is enough to comfortably keep one owl or bird of prey in food for one week. With over 70 mouths to feed, you can see how that adds up!

And remember: all Meal Ticket purchases are eligible for Gift Aid if you are a UK taxpayer, regardless of who you are purchasing them for. Your £5 contribution will become £6.25 at no extra cost to you!

Who Would You Like to Buy a Meal Ticket For?

Meal Ticket contributions are divided equally between all 70 of our birds (even the ones not listed below), so no need to overthink it. Choose your favourite - nobody gets left out!

chrysos.jpg

Chrysos♀

Golden eagle

"Chrysos" is an ancient Greek god of riches, and we definitely struck gold with this one! Golden eagles are one of the most widespread and iconic birds or prey, so we are proud to have her at BORC!

doodles.jpg

Doodles♀

Common raven

Doodles is a bit of a celebrity, having appeared on the final episode of Peaky Blinders and the third series of House of the Dragon! She has learned how to say "hi", "hello" and "how you doing?"

gaston.jpg

Gaston♂

Great grey owl

This cheeky little chappie loves nothing more than being the centre of attention, just like his Disney namesake. Great grey owls are considered the largest owl, but weigh less than 2lbs - its mostly fluff!

gracie.jpg

Gracie♀

Verreaux's eagle-owl

The Matriarch of the centre, Gracie is the oldest bird at BORC, having been born in 1992. This species' pink eyelids aren't just for looking fabulous - they are thought to help deter predators.

minerva.jpg

Minerva♀

Siberian eagle-owl

Minerva is the largest and most impressive owl at BORC, so it's easy to see why she's one of its biggest stars! In captivity, this species can live for up to 40 years, so there's plenty left in the big girl yet.

coco.jpg

Coco♀

Red-legged seriema

The red-legged seriema is a species thought to be descended from the prehistoric "terror bird". If you've seen the way that Coco smashes her rubber snake, you'd certainly think so too!

fruitloop.jpg

Fruitloop♂

Lilac-breasted roller

Fruitloop lives at BORC with his partner Skittles, the connection being that they are both sweet and multi-coloured! The lilac-breasted roller is unofficially considered the national bird of Kenya.

geoff.jpg

Geoff♂

Cape vulture

Geoff is the only Cape vulture that you'll find in the UK. This absolute unit weighs a whopping 17lbs and is fittingly named after Britain's Strongest Man winner, the late Geoff Capes.

jill.jpg

Jill♀

Snowy owl

Jill lives at BORC with her partner, Jack. Female snowy owls can be identified by their black markings - the males are all white. A female snowy owl, Hedwig, famously appears in Harry Potter!

whoolio.jpg

Whoolio♂

Barn owl

Whoolio had the honour of being named in a Facebook competition, so we're lucky he wasn't called Owly McOwlface. Barn owls are more common in Lincolnshire than any other English county.

Adoption Package Disclaimer & Terms

All of our Adoption Packages are considered a symbolic sponsorship for a term of one year from the date of purchase, for which the selected animal will continue to remain under the ownership and care of Baytree Owl and Raptor Centre. We endeavour to offer animals up for adoption only where we believe that they - in all likelihood - would remain in the collection for a period of at least one year. However, due to the nature of the charity's position as a licensed zoological park, we cannot guarantee that the adopted bird will remain at the attraction for the full term of adoption, nor are we able to ensure that your chosen bird will be viewable on the day of your visit. In the event that the selected animal is transferred away from Baytree Owl and Raptor Centre, dies, or is otherwise no longer housed at the collection (such as in an off-show capacity) either permanently or temporarily, the sponsorship will continue as an "Honorary Adoption" - that is, the symbolic adoption will continue to be honoured by us for the remaining duration of the sponsorship. The original adopter will not automatically be notified of this, however more information about a bird's particular circumstances can be provided on request. Additionally, the type and duration of the sponsor's recognition varies based on the chosen tier and - depending on the recognition format included with your adoption tier - we cannot 100% guarantee that the sponsor's name will be visible on any given date; we recommend contacting us before visiting to check the sponsor's current recognition status. We wish to ensure our adoption packages offer a genuine representation of the sponsored bird, and in the vast majority of cases the image supplied will be that of the chosen bird. However in very rare instances where a high quality photograph of an individual bird cannot be obtained (or, in the case of breeding pairs, where a clear distinction between individual birds cannot be made) this will instead be substituted with the best available image of that species from our collection. However all images used are a genuine photograph of a bird housed at Baytree Owl and Raptor Centre. All adoption packages are valid for one year from the date of issue, until the end date shown on your certificate and admission pass (where applicable). To redeem your admission pass, simply present at the till upon arrival. Photocopies will not be accepted, but lost or stolen tickets may be reissued, subject to discretion. Note that each type of pass can only be used once (once per visit for Annual Membership pass) against admission for the named adoptee. In situations where more than one person (including families or organisations) have been named on the adoption package, the voucher entitlement will still pertain to admission for one person.
