Vulture Awareness Day

Home >> Visit >> Vulture Awareness Day

Did you know? The first Saturday in September is International Vulture Awareness Day, where organisations across the globe highlight the plight of vultures in order to garner support for these oft-misunderstood birds and help save their dwindling wild populations.

We are proud to have a variety of unique vulture species in our collection, so join us for this entertaining and enlightening event to learn all about these extremely important birds of prey, the threats they currently face, and what you can do to help.

A proportion of funds raised on the day will be donated to the vulture conservation charity VulPro!

When is it?

Vulture Awareness Day is taking place on Saturday the 6th of September 2025.

This is a full-day event which will run between our regular opening hours from 10:00am - 4:00pm (last admission at 3:00pm.)

What is It?

As well as our usual attractions, we will be drawing special attention to the amazing vulture species in our collection throughout the day. You'll be able to see our African white-backed vultures, American black vultures, and turkey vultures!

We'll be holding two flying demonstrations at 12:00pm and 2:30pm, as well as a dedicated keeper talk at 1:30pm with an exclusive focus on our pair of endangered African white-backed vultures and the importance of species conservation.

Note: schedule subject to change
